Sauer in June 2001 became the third American woman ever to break the 15-foot barrier by vaulting 4.61m/15-1.5 in Irvine, Calif...she followed up by clearing 4.61m/25-1.5 in indoors in 2002 and again surpassing 15 feet in 2004 and 2005...a five-time All-American in the triple and high jump at Azusa Pacific University, Sauer did not begin pole vaulting till after she graduated in 1997in her first full season as a pole vaulter, Sauer finished 7th at the U.S. Outdoor Championship in 2000, Sauer won her first pole vault competition, the LA Invitational, and finished 3rd at the U.S. Indoor Championship. At the 2000 U.S. Olympic Trials, she just missed making the U.S. Olympic team after vaulting 4.33m (14-02.50). "It was really disappointing (missing out on the 2000 Olympics), but it reaffirmed my belief that through hard work, positive things can happen to come as far as I have in such a short time, has built my confidence that I will be able to go out and make the team in 2004" 2000 appeared in a photo for Maxim magazine...posed for the 2004 Vaultgirls calendar.
