In 2006, McWilliams scratched from the 1,500m final at the AT&T USA Outdoor Championships after being hit by a truck on while running from the hotel to the track. Even with her coach, her agent, and her sponsor telling her it was ok to scratch, McWilliams wanted to warm and give it a shot...McWilliams has established herself as one of the top middle distance runners in the NCAA and now is one of the best in the U.S. …she crossed the finish line in her career-best time of 4:32.24 to win the 2004 NCAA Indoor Championships in the mile, edging the defending champion Johanna Nilsson of Northern Arizona…“my “goal was just to make the rest of the girls run hard. And I tried to run the best that I could. It feels good to be the national champion and I’m happy for Mississippi State.”…injury kept her out of the Olympic Trials...in 2003, she won the NCAA Outdoor 1,500m title in 4:06.75, and was the runner-up in the NCAA Indoor mile (4:36.51)…she holds more SEC titles than any other Lady Bulldog in school history…earned six letters in track and two in cross country at Red Bay High School...named captain her senior year...set Alabama state records in the 2A division in the 800m, 1,600m and 3,200m as a senior...won the state championship her junior and senior seasons in cross country...ran personal bests of 2:18 (800m) and 5:09 (1,600m) in high school…earned four letters in basketball, two letters in tennis and one letter each in cheerleading and softball…daughter of Jon and Tammy McWilliams...grandfather Jon lettered in track at Ohio State…majoring in elementary education.
