Career Highlights: 15th at 2006 LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon
Coons was the third American woman and 15th overall to finish at The 2006 LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon, running a lifetime best of 2:38:18. She had previously qualified for the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials at the 2005 Twin Cities Marathon where she ran 2:46:54. At the University of Virginia, Coons won the Atlantic Coast Conference Cross Country title. After graduating in 2001, she won the 2002 Penn Relays 10,000m and was part of the Seoul International Ekiden Relay team. She started 2005 with a half marathon best of 1:15:00 in Houston and competed in several Minnesota races leading up to her Olympic Trials qualification performance. In 2006, Coons was fourth at the Fifth Third River Bank Run 25K and ran a near-PR 1:15:13 at the Philadelphia Distance Run Half Marathon. A prep star in Virginia, Coons was a first-team All-District cross country selection at James Madison HS four times ... All-Region as a senior ... two-time district champion in the 1,600 meters (as a sophomore and as a junior) ... district champion in cross country and 3,200 meters in track as a junior ... one of eight members of Madison's annual All-Athletic Team ... Optimist Youth Award of Excellence (1997) ... The Scholastic Art Award recipient (Corcoran School of Art) ... played soccer at Madison. Coons lived in Burnsville, Minn., and ran for Team USA Minnesota before returning to Virginia. She is currently an assistant track and field/cross country coach at her alma mater, the University of Virginia.
