O'Hara and up-and-comer didn't start pole vaulting until 1998 as a high school senior, having previously competed in gymnastics, diving and water polo...she won the California state high school title in 1998 as a senior and won the U.S Junior title that year with a U.S. prep best of 4.04m/13-3. Also in 1998 she placed seventh in the voting for High School Athlete of the Yearin 2000, O'Hara set the collegiate pole vault record (4.42m/14-6) to win the NCAA Indoor Championships...she broke her own collegiate record at the 2000 NCAA Outdoor Championship with a winning mark and personal best 4.45m/14-7.25...with her victory at the 2002 NCAA Outdoor Championships, O'Hara became the first woman ever to score in that event on four occasionsan American literature and culture major at UCLA.
