Career Highlights: 2004 Olympic silver medalist; 2005 USA Outdoor champion; 2000 USA Indoor champion

After injuring his foot at the 2005 USA Outdoor Championships, Hemingway re-injured the same foot later that summer on his final jump of the prelims at the World Outdoor Championships in Helsinki, Finland. He decided to sit out the entire 2006 season to let it heal properly. He intends to compete during the 2007 indoor season. Hemingway had a strong season in 2005, highlighted by his win at the USA Outdoor Championships. In winning the silver medal at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Hemingway found himself in first place throughout the entire competition, jumping without misses. He successfully cleared 2.20m/7-2.5 and 2.25m/7-4.5 on his first attempts, then passed at 2.29m/7-6. His first try at 2.34m/7-8 also was successful, keeping him up on the world’s top jumper, Stefan Holm of Sweden, who had two misses at the height, as well as a miss at 2.32. At 2.36m/7-8.75, it was Holm who prevailed, clearing on his first attempt while Hemingway missed three times. After two years off, Hemingway in 2000 took his high jumping to another level indoors. A fourth-place finisher at the 1996 Olympic Trials, he did not compete in 1998 and 1999, saying he was tired of the sport and it was no longer fun...spent those two years as a whitewater raft guide in Colorado. Returning in 2000, he broke his PR on three occasions. His best clearance of 7-9.75 earned him the 2000 U.S. Indoor title and was the best jump in the world that year indoors...favorite training method is playing basketball...his PR prior to the 2000 indoor season was 7-6.5, set in 1996...his 2002 seasonal best of 2.32m/7-7.25 was the second best clearance by an American that year…married to wife Kate…favorite training methods are playing basketball and running hills with his dog…website: www.higher2fly.com.
