Reid won her first USA national championship in March 2000, the Indoor 400 title. With her mother a former hurdler and long jumper, Reid started running track as a first grader in Jamaica. Carrying dual citizenship with Jamaica, Reid moved to the United States at age 11 and took a few years off from track then went out for cross country as a ninth-grader: 'My coach noticed I had some speed. He asked me to come out for indoor track. I started in the 800 and gradually moved down.' She ended up winning countless high school state titles in Maryland and even lettered twice in cross country. Her high school track team won the state title every year she ran...dropped the baton as anchor of 4th place USA 4x400m relay team at 2001 World Outdoor Championships in Edmonton, but gained redemption when she anchored Team USA to gold at the 2001 Goodwill Games, beating Jamaica, which had won gold in Edmonton...Reid became eligible to represent the U.S. in 1995...she was MVP at the Penn Relays in 1995, when she split 52.1... pronounces her first name, 'Sooz-ANN.'
