A scholarship runner at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, Lehmkuhle was an
All-American in the 5000m and 10,000m. His personal bests during college include
a 13:59 in the 5000 and 28:44 in the 10,000 which qualified him to compete in
the 2000 Olympic Trials in the 10,000 metersat the 2004 U.S. Men's Olympic
Marathon Trials, he finished 10th overall with a personal-best time of 2:16:27
at the USA Men's 8k Championships, he placed 13th in a personal best time of
23:16. Jason won the Drake Relays 5000m and at the Cardinal Invite on April 30,
qualified for the U.S. Track & Field Trials in the 10,000 with a time of 28:26
joined Team USA Minnesota in 2001.
