Career Highlights: First American female finisher at the '05 Boston Marathon
LeVan, a former field-hockey player at Bowdoin College, began her career as a marathoner in 1998 "just for fun," finishing her first in 3:16. After two years and three marathons, she had lowered her best to 3:00 before taking a break to hike the 2100 mile Appalachian Trail. Upon her return she continued to improve her marks, running 2:47 in the fall of 2002 at the Maine Marathon and 2:41 at Boston the following spring. After missing the 2004 U.S. Olympic Trials marathon due to the birth of her daughter, Madeline, LeVan won last fall's Sportshoe Maine Marathon in a personal best time of 2:39:54, making her the only woman to ever break 2:40 in a marathon in Maine. She recently finished 12th at the 2005 B.A.A. Boston Marathon in 2:43:14, making her the first U.S. female finisher. She lives in Wiscasset, Maine, and is currently a nursing student at the University of Southern Maine.
