Kinard just missed joining the Olympic Team in Athens after her third-place finish at the 2004 Olympic Trials, because she did not have the A qualifying standard. It was a part of a trying year for Kinard, who after the Olympic Trials competition revealed that her stepfather had murdered her mother, then killed himself, earlier that springin winning her first national title in the triple jump at the 2002 USA Indoor Championships, Kinard knocked off defending indoor triple jump champion Tiombe Hurd in New York with a jump of 13.62m/44-8.25. She repeated as indoor champion in 2003. As a collegian at Kansas State, Kinard jumped a school record 45-1.75 and finished third overall at the 1997 NCAA Outdoor ChampionshipsWas the 1995 California JUCO triple jump and long jump champion, but now only triple jumps.
