Career Highlights: 2003 NCAA decathlon champion

During his junior year in 2003 as a University of Tennessee sophomore, Harris served notice that he is an up and comer as an American decathlete. Harris won the NCAA Outdoor title and ended the season ranked #5 in the U.S. by Track & Field News. His 2003 campaign got off to a strong start with his win at the College Station Decathlon in March at Texas A&M, where he finished with four wins in the 10 events, for a lifetime-best score of 8,103w points. His total is the second-best regular season score ever by a Vol, behind only 2003 world champion Tom Pappas NCAA record score of 8,463 points.At the end of the 2002 season, Harris was chosen as one of 16 amateur athletes honored along with Gwen Torrence and Ambassador Andrew Young, at the 2002 Peach of an Athlete Role Model Awards Banquet sponsored by the Atlanta Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America ... a star performer at Norcross HS in Georgia, Harris holds Gwinnett County Championship meet records in the 300M hurdles (38.31), 400M dash (49.04) and the high jump (6-9)...Member of four relay teams that hold Norcross High records...Three times voted All-County in track and once in cross country...he took fifth in the state (high jump) and sixth (300 hurdles), and olds a high school 400M dash PR of 48.98.
