As one of Americans finest weight throwers for nearly a decade, Ellerbe, has been the model of consistency throughout her career. After training in Laramie, Wyo., following her graduating from South Carolina in 1997, Ellerbe in 2000 returned to Columbia, S.C., where she is a volunteer assistant coach for the Gamecocks and is coached by USC assistant coach Mike Sergent. She reaped the dividends of her move with a personal best throw of 70.62m/231-8 in the hammer at the 2001 Penn Relaysover six feet tall since the eighth grade, Ellerbe has always stood out. However, she never thought shed make a great thrower. Her high school bests were only 35-feet (SP) and 134-feet (DT). As a collegian at South Carolina, she trimmed her weight by 45 pounds once she started training with coach Larry Judge. In 1997, she earned her bachelors in advertising and public relations from South Carolina, and she has a masters degree in marketing from Wyoming. In 1995, she improved her hammer PR by more than seven feet to win the first USA hammer title for women.
