A consistent performer on the national race walk scene since 1999, in 2003 Albert had his best finish ever at a U.S. national championship with his runner-up placing at the 2003 USA 50 km race walk championships. He followed that with a strong fourth-place finish at the 2004 Olympic 50 km race walk trialsfollowing a successful junior career winning five national titles in race walking, Albert attended St. Peters College, competing in both cross-country and race walking. Upon graduation from St. Peters in 1996, Albert worked for LOreal for 2.5 years and twice ran the New York City Marathon while taking a race walking hiatus. Albert then decided to leave his job and begin training full time at the ARCO Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif., ending 1999 with a sixth place finish at Nationals at 20 km. After an injury-ridden 2000 season, Albert came on strong in 2001 with a third place finish at the U.S. Outdoor National 20 km race and set PRs at every distance he walked that year.
