Career Highlights:  2003 NCAA Outdoor champion; World Outdoor Championships 4x400m relay gold medalist; placed sixth in the 400m at the 2003 U.S. Championships

 A five-time All-American in his collegiate career, Steele won the 2003 NCAA outdoor title in the 400 meters with a school-record time of 44.57that winning time was the fastest in the world at that point of the season and ended up as the fourth-fastest by an American in 2003. Also in 2003, Steele helped Minnesotas 4x400m relay to a second-place finish at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in a school-record time of 3:02.33a four-time All-American as a member of the Gophers 4x400m relay, Steele also was the 2003 Big Ten champion in the 600m indoors and he  won the Big Ten title in the 4x400m and distance medley relays. Steeles late-season surge earned him a spot in the Team USA 4x400m relay pool for the World Outdoor Championships in Paris, where he and his Minnesota teammate Mitch Potter, ran in the opening round of the mens 4x400m relay to earn gold medals
