Ross
is an up and coming javelin thrower from Purdue University. At
the 2002 NCAA Outdoor Championships, she set a then American record in the
javelin when she threw 59.64 meters/195 feet, 8 inches, topping her previous
personal best by nearly eight feet. She
set the AR again in winning her first USA Outdoor title with a throw of
60.06m/197-0, a mark later surpassed by current American record holder Kim
Kreiner in July. As
a collegiate junior, Ross competed in the qualifying rounds of the 2000 U.S.
Olympic Trials, finishing 19th. She returned in 2001 to finish 3rd
at the 2001 USA Outdoor Championships and 6th at the NCAA Outdoor
Championships majored in sociology at Purdue.
