   Lassiter, the 1997 and 2002 USA Outdoor champ, had a banner indoor season in 2001, becoming the fastest American in the indoor mile in 16 years with his 3:54.21 at the Tyson Invitational. He went on to win his first U.S. indoor title and placed sixth at the World Indoor Championships 1,500mhas battled tendonitis outdoors but regained enough fitness to place 2nd at the GMC Envoy USA Outdoor Championships and later make the IAAF A qualifying standard in EuropeIn 2002 he had another quick mile, running 3:55.30 at the Nike Prefontaine ClassicIn eighth grade, Lassiters gym teacher, Allen Overton, was also his track coach, You know how you run the mile in gym class? Usually I just jogged it with the guys, but one day I said, Im going to see what I can do. He liked what he saw and asked me to try track. I did, because I didnt have anything else to do in the afternoon... Lassiter later developed into the nations top high school miler, running a 4:05.70 1600 meters, capturing the 1995 national indoor mile title and winning the 1500 at the 95 Penn Relays, where he was named outstanding high school athleteby attending the University of Arkansas, Lassiter became the first member of his family to go to college says his biggest weapon on the track is his desire to win. I feel like I have a lot riding on my shoulders. Not just for me. I need to do something for my mom.

1998: Won NCAA 1500 (3:42.34); 3rd in 800 heat (1:49.73)... 3rd in mile (4:03.60) at NCAA Indoor; anchored 2nd-place distance medley (3:58.8 for 9:30.45)...anchored winning 4xMile at Penn Relays, named Penn Relays Performer of the Meet (4:02.8 for 16:11.65): anchored 2nd-place distance medley (3:58.9 for 9:29.30)... won SEC Indoor 800 (1:50.19)...won 800 (1:46.56 PR) and 1500 (3:43.38) at SEC... 28th in NCAA XC... bests of 1:46.56, 3:39.28 and 3:59.60.

1997: Won USA Outdoor 1500 (3:45.85) and NCAA Outdoor (3:40.22)... 2nd in mile (4:01.30 PR) at NCAA Indoor; ran leg for 6th place distance medley (1:48.7 for 9:41.34)...anchored winning distance medley at Penn Relays (3:57.0 for 9:30.01), named Penn Relays Performer of the Meet...won SEC 1500 (3:44.40), 2nd in 800 (1:48.20 PR)... 78th at NCAA XC...ranked #2 U.S. in 1500 by T&FN... bests of 1:48.20, 3:38.85 and 4:01.30.

1996: Won USA Juniors...ran on 9th-place distance medley at NCAA Indoor (9:52.43)...ran on winning 4x1500 at Penn Relays (15:13.86)...won SEC 800 (1:49.66 PR)...7th in opening round 1500 at NCAA... 8th in SEC XC...28th in NCAA XC... bests of 1:49.66, 3:42.81 and 4:05.18.

1995: Won National Scholastic Indoor mile (4:08.62)...won 800 (1:52.00) at USA Juniors...86th in NCAA XC. bests of 1:49.90 and 3:54.40 (1500).

1994: Won National Scholastic Indoor mile (4:15.39)...2nd in National Scholastic mile (4:07.13)... best of 4:07.13 (mile).
