With the sub-4 mile indoors, I had the speed element. And I ran the 8-K road championships in New York City in 22:55, so I believe I had the strength element, too. I knew moving out to Eugene was going to be a huge transition coming from the Midwest. I started working a lot less, and things just started to fall into place. When I first got here I struggled a little bit with thinking, maybe that was it, maybe I should go out and get a job and make the money and get out of the sport, but I hung in there and when spring came around the following year things went well.
