In 2002, Gaitenby won her first U.S. title at the Twin Cities Marathon (2:36:10)in 2001, Gaitenby, a kitchen designer, left her business and Boston to join the Fila Discovery USA program in California, with dramatic results in April, she set a twelve-minute personal record at the Boston Marathon (2:36:45).

2003: 9th Boston Marathon (2:38:19).
