Buford-Bailey is an experienced international competitor who came back successfully from pregnancy. She barely missed a bronze medal at the 2001 World Championships, then had an amazing run at the Grand Prix Final to finish the year with an unexpected winBuford-Bailey had a son, Victor Bailey, Jr., on Sept. 28, 1998. The new mom didnt do any training at all during the pregnancy but she regained her strength and made the 2000 U.S. Olympic team with a 3rd place finish at the Olympic Trials in Sacramento. Buford-Bailey was coached in high school by Lefty Martin, father of LaVonna Martin, the 1992 Olymipc 100H silver medalist. An all-around star at Illinois; counting individual events and relays, Buford-Bailey won 25 Big 10 titles. A 10-time All-American, she was an education major in college. She dedicates her running to her sister, Crystal, who has muscular dystrophy. At the 1995 World Champs, she nearly caught winner Kim Batten at the line as both broke the world record in the 400H...Married Victor Bailey on October 28, 1995; Bailey played football for the Kansas City Chiefs.

2002: Decided to take the year off because the 400m hurdles was not a Grand Prix event Plans to return to competition in 2003.
