1999 U.S. womens triple jump champion; 1999 NCAA TJ champ; 4th at 2000 Olympic Trials

Bowers made her breakthrough in 1999, when she won the U.S. and NCAA triple jump championships. Since then she has placed no lower than sixth at USA championship events. Capped a celebrated prep career by leading La Vega HS to its first-ever Class 3A championship. At the state meet, Bowers won the triple jump for the third straight year with a leap of 12.38m/40-7.25. She also won the long jump with a best of 5.83m/19-1.50, and she anchored the 4x400m relay team that captured the state title (3:59.68). A four-year letter-winner in track, volleyball and basketball, as a senior, Bowers was named the Super CenTex Player of the Year in all three sports. A National Honor Society member in high school, Bowers majored in education at Baylor.
