Aden moved to the U.S. in 1988 from Somalia and ran a 4:05 mile as a prep senior in 1992. He became a U.S. citizen just before the 2000 Olympic Trials. Adens goals for 2003 are ambitious. Im going to win the U.S. Indoor mile, the U.S. Outdoor 1,500 meters and the 4 km race at U.S. Cross Country, he said. I am very confident because my training is going well and I believe in my abilities. Recognized as an up-and-comer in the mile and 1,500 meters, Adens mile personal best of 3:55.53 from his fifth-place finish at the 2002 Nike Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Ore., was the second-fastest performance by an American that year. His 3:56.09 clocking in Gresham was the fourth-fastest time by an American in 2002. His third-place finish at the 2002 USA Outdoors in the 1,500 meters was the best of his career. His previous best placing was in 2001 when he finished eightha two-time Olympian for Somalia, in 2000 he carried his national flag in the opening ceremonieshe competed in the first round of the 1500 meters (3:40.33)at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, Iden competed in the first round of the 800 meters (1:47.31).
