With 300 meters remaining in the steeplechase final at the 2000 Olympic Trials, it appeared that Clint Wells would become an Olympian. He was on pace to make the team and meet the Olympic 'A' qualifying standard. Unfortunately for Wells, Tony Cosey and Tim Broe edged him out at the finish, costing him a spot on the Olympic Team. Wells, who bettered his previous PR by 11 seconds in the race, told the Denver Post he just didn't have the strength when he needed it. 'I wasted too much energy trying to avoid people, and when it came down to the end, I didn't have anything left,' he said. Wells is an American Indian (Apache/Yaqi) who is supported by the Native American Sports Council.
