Tolson is one the nation's top young throwers, consistently finishing in the top 10 at the USA Outdoor Championships since her sophomore year at UCLA worked with top throws coach Art Venegas after transferring to UCLA in 1998. 'Christina works hard at all facets,' said Venegas. 'That's what makes her so solid as a thrower.' Originally went to Cal-State Northridge, but decided to become a Bruin when CS-Northridge head coach Candy Roberts left to coach at Syracuse. Roberts had also trained under Venegas, which Tolson believes contributed to her easy transition to UCLA graduated from UCLA in 2001 with a degree in anthropology.

2001: 4th at USA Outdoors SP (16.94/55-07.00) 6th at USA HT (63.67m/208-11) Won NCAA Outdoors SP (17.39m/57-0.75) runner-up NCAA HT (65.54m/215-0) won Pac 10 SP (17.77m/58-3.75) ranked #4 in SP, #5 in HT in U.S. by T&FN bests of 65.54m/215-0 (HT) and 17.77m/58-3.75 (SP).
2000: 8th at U.S. Olympic Trials SP (15.97m/52-4.75) 11th at U.S. Olympic Trials HT (57.85m/ 189-09) 5th at NCAA Outdoors SP and HT won Pac-10 HT Runner-up at Pac 10 SP bests of 63.68m/208-11 (HT) and 17.34m/56-10.75 (SP).
