A discus thrower in high school, Price walked on to the Nebraska track and field team her freshman season. Coach Mark Colligan introduced Price to the hammer, thinking that she was more suited for that event she has gotten progressively better over the years, leading up to her first Big 12 Conference championship in the hammer in 2000 and personal-best throw at the 2001 USA Outdoor Championships. Also in 2000, Price finished second at the NCAA Outdoor Championships and ninth at the U.S. Olympic Trials. A weightlifter in high school, Price was invited to attend a training camp for USA Weightlifting, but decided to stick with track and field, citing that she preferred the track and field lifestyle majoring in finance, Price would like to work as an investment banker when her track & field career ends.

2001: 3rd, USA Outdoors (66.25m/217-4) 12th at World Champs (61.57m/202-0) 9th at World University Games (61.06/200-4) ranked #2 in U.S. by T&FN best of 66.25/217-4.
