MacDonald started running in the seventh grade because her middle school didn't have soccer or softball she picked up the steeplechase as soon as she heard it was a women's event. Her collegiate coach, Walt Drenth, helped her to learn the drills the day after the 2000 NCAA Outdoor Championships, so MacDonald would know the drills before her summer break. "I have always loved sports and the steeple adds more to the race than just running. I like jumping over the barriers and especially the water pit." MacDonald ran her first competitive steeplechase race in May 2001 and won the first ever Pac 10 SC Championships in June owns four ASU school records - indoor 5000m (16:31.41), outdoor 5000m (15:55.90) and 3000m SC (9:55.87) MacDonald will graduate from ASU in May 2002 with a degree in Art Education.
