Won 1997 IAAF World Indoor 200 meter title in Paris running out of lane 6...winning time of 20.40 matched the then-American record set by Jeff Williams in 1996. First went out for track in seventh grade. Placed fifth as a sophomore at Iowa State HS Championships, never lost a race in that event the remainder of prep career. Also won 100-meter title as a senior. Was inspired as a sophomore in high school by seeing Calvin Smith at Drake Relays shortly after Smith set the world recordhad surgery to repair a severed Achilles tendon in 1993 following a biking accident, and spent the rest of 1993-94 in rehabbegan running 400s in rehab for strength training and ran 44.77 at Mt. SAC in 1996. Attended Drake University, where he earned a degree in marketing, because it was close to home. Employed by a book publisher (US West Decks) as a pricing manager. Lists golf and mountain biking as favorite hobbies.
