A relative newcomer to pole vault, Linnen has only been jumping for three years but is poised to lead the 'next generation' of American vaulters as a senior at Mt. Siani (N.Y.) High School, Linnen was the No. 1 prep vaulter and she has continued her progress at the University of Arizona. As a freshman in 2001, she really took off, finishing fifth at 4.20m/13-9.25. That mark tied her for third best collegiately that year and tied her with UA senior Andrea Dutoit for the Wildcat indoor record. Linnen missed the first four weeks of the outdoor season with a laceration on her hand, but came back in impressive fashion, clearing 4.00m/13-1.50 at her first NCAA Outdoor Championships to finish fifth. Linnen followed up that performance with a clearance of 4.21m/13-9.75 at the 2001 U.S. Junior National Championships, establishing a new American Junior record and an Arizona school record in 2002, she continued her assault on the record books by raising the pole vault collegiate record two more times at a meet in Lincoln, Nebraska, Linnen went 4.52m/14-10 and then less than four weeks later, she won her first NCAA title with an indoor collegiate-record clearance of 4.53m/14-10.25 a former high school gymnast, Linnen is majoring in physical education and aspires to teach or coach in the future.
