Hudson for years dominated the triple jump in the U.S., and she is working to re-establish that dominance while also working as a journalist at the Sacramento Bee Hudson started competing in track at age 10 in all-comers meets. Her family moved to Korea for two years, and she didn't compete again until her frosh year of high school...has a degree in architecture from Cal ... in 1995, she jumped a 46-9 (14.25) American record, a mark all the more meaningful since she had set the old best of 46-8.25 (14.23) in 1992, tied it in 1994, and leaped that far indoors in 1995: 'I was getting tired of that number.'... the only American to reach the final in the first Olympic triple jump competition for women (1996); cites making that team as her proudest moment ever, but notes that the Olympic final itself was somewhat disappointing: 'It was a very chaotic time in my personal life. That got in the way of my focus and concentration for something that I had trained so long for. I finished 10th, but I didn't get the most out of myself' ... had arthroscopic surgery in her right knee in 1997.
