DeHaven started running early, completing a 15-mile road race at age 10. In eighth grade, he ran 4:41 and 10:00, and by his senior year he held state records in both the 1600 at 3200. "I started training harder at South Dakota State," he says. "I was running with older, more mature training partners. They had seen other phenoms not get through the gates. I learned I had to work hard to get to the next level"... DeHaven earned his degree in computer science and works part-time as a computer programmer. His success on the roads has enabled him to move from full-time to part-time work; he earned nearly $92,000 in prize money on the roads in 2000 and almost $40,000 in 2001 ...married to Shelli; two children: Addison (born 1996) and Graham (born 1998).


2001:
Ran a personal-best time of 2:11:40 to place 6th at Chicago marathon, the fastest time by an American in 2001 ranked #1 U.S. in marathon by T&FN.
2000: Won U.S. Men's Olympic Marathon Trials in 2:15:30...suffering from dehydration and gastrointestinal problems, placed 69th in Olympic marathon (2:30:46)...best of 2:15:30.
