Burrell had a tremendous start to the 2001 indoor season, winning the U.S. indoor title, then leaping from fourth the first on her last jump to win the World Indoor Championships. Her outdoor season was ended when she tore the ACL in her right (jumping) knee during training in April. The younger sister of former 100m world record holder Leroy Burrell...says she started in the sport not because of him, but because, 'I thought that I'd enjoy doing it.' She won seven state titles as a Pennsylvania prep...graduated from Houston with a degree in human development and family studies...has done volunteer work for the Houston Area Women's Center.
2002: Did not compete due to injury.
2001: Won World Indoors LJ (7.03m/23-0.75 PR) and US Indoors LJ (6.68m/21-11) tore ACL in her right (jumping) leg in April and missed outdoor seasonranked #4 in world (#1 U.S.) by T&FNbests of 7.03m/23-0.75i PR and 8.12i in 60mH.
