First name pronounced "Shanna"...was chided by her brothers and twin sister as a child, who called her "The Human TV Guide." They thought she watched too much television, and told her mother to make her go out for a sport..."Track was in session at the time," she says; her older brother had run track, as well...competed as a heptathlete while at Seton Hall...won 11 Big East titles for the Hall, including four straight in the high jump...after college took as Director of Academic Advisement at the University of Albany when longtime coaches Tim and Larry Athill convinced her to move somewhere she could concentrate solely on track. Williams trained in Eugene, Oregon, from 1995-97. Her coach in Eugene was Elzbieta Krzesinski, an Olympic long jump gold medallist in 1956 for Poland...self-coached since she moved back East to work on her masters... Williams has her degree in health/physical education and recently completed her masters degree in exercise science at Syracuse University.

2000: 3rd at Olympic Trials 6.87m/22-6.5w...did not make Olympic final 6.41m/21-1.50...2nd at USA Indoor 6.40m/21-0... ranked #3 in U.S. by T&FN... best of 6.80m/22-3.75.
1999: Won USA indoor title... 2nd at World Indoor Championships with indoor PB (6.82m/22-4.5)...3rd at USA outdoors... ranked #9 in world (#2 U.S.) by T&FN... best of 22-1.
1998: 2nd at USA Indoor (22-3.5)...2nd USA Champs (22-7.75)...won Edwardsville GP (22-3.5)... won Goodwill Games (22-9.25w)...6th in GP Final (21-11.75)...ranked #7 in world (#2 U.S.) by T&FN... best of 22-10.5.
