Walder is part of a long line of world-class jumpers from the University of Arkansas that began with 1992 Olympic TJ Gold Medalist and current USATF Director of Elite Athletes, Mike Conley. Walder won 10 NCAA titles for the Razorbacks...had problems his first year out of school because of the transition from a "hang" technique to the 2.5 hitchkick...vertical leap of 38 inches...his 28-8.25 in El Paso as a senior broke Carl Lewis's collegiate record...earned psychology degree at Arkansas in May 1999...in recent years has become a long jumper primarily, as opposed to his college career when he emphasized the triple jump just as much...he says, "I've always wanted to do both jumps. I haven't totally abandoned the triple jump."...has mixed feelings about recent seasons long jumping: "I'm happy about the technical aspects. I've come to grips with what it takes technically to jump far. But now I have to step it up a bit to get to the next level where I can jump in the high 28s or low 29s."
