Todd Riech bounced back from a 1999 season where he did not compete to finish
third at the 2000 Olympic Trials. As a high school junior, Riech won the 100m,
200m, 400m and javelin at the 1988 Montana State Championships. As his school's
only entrant, Riech's 24 points at that event won the team title by one point
which led to a "Faces In the Crowd" article in Sports Illustrated.
He repeated his wins in the 100m, 200m, 400m and javelin at the state meet his senior year, in addition to winning the state 300m hurdles crown...was recruited to Fresno State as a decathlete, but an injured hip and back made him focus on the javelin. A member of the Native American Sports Council (Flathead & Kootenai Tribe), Riech works as a fitness consultant. Married to Lisa, he has aspirations of becoming an FBI Agent.
2000: 3rd at Olympic Trials (76.94/252-1) but did not have Olympic
"A" qualifier, so did not compete in Sydney...6th at Mt. SAC...5th in
U.S. vs. GBR dual meet...ranked 3rd in U.S. by Track & Field News...best of
259-4 in Glasgow.
