Coming off a strong 2000 indoor season, Pyrah used that base to make his second Olympic team and make the Olympic final. He began running in junior high and won five state championships as a Missouri prep. He earned a B.S. in physical education at BYU, with an emphasis on athletic training and is currently enrolled in the graduate program at BYU, getting his masters in nutrition. When not studying, he enjoys working on cars and flying - he has his private pilots license, and may consider trying to get into commercial airlines after his running career. Another option, he says, is coaching and working as a nutritionist. A devout Mormon, he's very involved with his church and did not compete in 1989-90 due to being on a religious mission to Bolivia.
