Twin brother of Brad Hauser, who also ran for Stanford...together they form one of the greatest brother combinations in U.S. distance running history...a two-time Foot Locker Cross Country finalist as a prep, Hauser went on to Stanford where he was a key member of the Cardinal's 5th place NCAA cross country team, earning All-American honors for the first time...was redshirted for the 1996 track season... Hauser captured the U.S. Junior 5000m title in 1996, which qualified him for the U.S. IAAF World Junior Championships in Sydney, Australia. His 5000m best that season of 14:16.89 was the second fastest by an American junior...Hauser broke school records in the 5000m and 10,000m in his first full season of competition for Stanford in 1997...ran 13:39.75 in 5000 meters at Mt. SAC, breaking the Cardinal's 21-year-old record by more than 13 seconds...at the 2000 NCAA Outdoor Championships, Hauser was in position to take 3rd place with 40 meters to go when he began staggering and wobbling from side to side. He fell across the line in 4th place, collecting valuable points for Stanford, which eventually won the NCAA team title. Although dehydrated from his effort in the 10k, Hauser bounced back in the 5000m to again finish 4th...a human biology major at Stanford.
