One of the most versatile and long-lived of American 400 and 800-meter runners, Everett made his third Olympic Team by winning the 800 at Sacramento. Everett was a nine-time All-America selection for Florida, winning 13 individual SEC titles as a Gator. He also had a part in seven SEC championships in the 4x400. His Florida connection has continued, as he has been a volunteer coach for the Gators...in recent years, he has said, "I haven't run my best yet. I've run fast in the 800, the 400, a world record in the 600y. I've been very competitive, been to the Olympics, made the finals. But I still haven't run to the best of my ability. A lot of times people will ask me who I think my biggest competition is. I've always said the same thing. My biggest competition is myself. I know that if I go out there and compete to the best of my ability that I can win."
