A three-time U.S. champion, Dobert's career is continued its upward trajectory with his 2000 Olympic Trials victory. A "rambunctious" child, Dobert broke five bones before he got into first grade, all in different accidents...a very competitive sports nut, he played soccer from the time he could walk through sixth grade, all year around...tried cross country in seventh grade because he didn't get along with the club soccer coach that year...did not compete in sports in ninth grade...a new school coach sent the cross country team to his house in 10th grade to recruit him..."My mom told me that I had to run," he says...ran for a successful high school team and became hooked...at Wisconsin, coach Martin Smith had many of the freshman distance runners try the hurdles..."I was able to hurdle well right off the bat, and the steeple turned out to be a good event for me. It was a natural fit"...improved vastly in college and says, "I was under-trained in high school and college, and that's ideal for me now. I have all this room to develop"... earned degree in natural resources at Wisconsin... has trained alongside some of the top Kenyans at Kim McDonald's training camps... last name pronounced "Doe-bear."
