Cosey got into running after he broke his middle school record for the physical fitness test in the mile (around 5:22)...the record he broke belonged to the neighbor across the street, Brad Higdon, who went on to become a state champion and a steepler at Tennessee. Higdon, three years older, recruited Cosey for the high school team; in his first fall of cross country running, Cosey placed 15th at state...'When I heard I could get my college paid for if I ran well, the light went on'...in the 1993 SEC cross country champs, Cosey fell and got up in dead last, but managed to finish 4th in the 90-man field...says that during college, when he found out that he could make money running after graduation, he decided he would keep pursuing his running career for a while: 'It's been a rocky road. I'm definitely not getting rich, but I'm enjoying myself, and as long as I'm not going broke.' Married to Kathryn...earned his undergrad degree in psychology, and is working in financial planning for American General Financial Group...daughter Taylor was born Sept. 23, 2000, two days before he ran at the Olympics in Sydney...puts in 90 miles a week in training...is also a volunteer assistant coach for the Vols' cross country and track teams...2-time HS state XC champ in 1990 and '91, Cosey also won the 3200 title in '91 and broke the state record for 1600m at the 1992 state meet.
