Career Highlights: Member, 1992 Olympic team (10,000m); Competed in 1991, 1993, 1994, and 1995 World Cross Country Champs; Member, 1997 World Championship team (10,000m).

Coogan did not compete in track in high school; instead, she swam, played lacrosse, field hockey, and squash. She made her debut in distance running when she went out for cross country at Smith College: "I wasn't looking for success when I went out for cross country. Whatever it was that I was looking for, I found it, and that's why I'm still running." In college, she won the NCAA Division III title at 3000m  in 1985 and 1986completed her Ph.D. in numbers theory at the University of Colorado in the summer of 1999married distance runner Mark Coogan in 1990; two children, Katrina (born 1993) and Margaret Gail (born November 12, 1998) started running again two weeks after the birth of her last childmaiden name is Hardesty.

2000: Did not finish Olympic Marathon Trials.

1999: 10th at USA Outdoors...best of 33:20.86.

1998: Won Houston Marathon (2:33:37)missed rest of season because of maternityranked #1 in U.S. at marathon by T&FNbest of 2:33:37.
