At 5'4", Bates is somewhat small for a hurdler - not surprisingly, she lists World Champion and American Record Holder Gail Devers, who is the same height, as the biggest influence on her athleticallystudied sociology at LSUnative of Philadelphia.

2000: NCAA Outdoor champion (12.85)2nd, NCAA Indoor (7.99).

1999: NCAA Indoor champ (8.02) went undefeated in the hurdles during the indoor season ... finished eighth in the 100m hurdles NCAA Outdoors Championships after running a PR of 12.91 in the semifinal round to advance.

1997: Won JUCO national championship while attending Essex County College.
