Biography

Jason got his start in running as a senior in high school when his marketing teacher and coach of the cross-country team, Steve Urban, convinced him to join the team to get in shape for the upcoming basketball season. Although admittedly not very fast at first, Jason has gone on to win races from every distance from 5 km to 50 km. He graduated with a degree in accounting in 2001 and received his C.P.A. certification in 2004. He married former University of Northern Colorado cross-country runner Patricia VanLandschoot on October 16, 2004.

In their own words...

Running achievement I am most proud of: Winning the 2006 USATF 50 km Road Championship because it was only my second attempt at an ultra distance event. I had finished second overall three months earlier at the Sunmart 50 km and was immediately hooked on this distance and the desire to test my limits.

Why I run: I love the thrill of competition and the chance to see what I am capable of.

Future Goals: To stay healthy, lower my PR's and win more national titles.

Favorite quote: "The talent to be a great runner is a gift to you from God; utilizing that talent is a gift to you from yourself." Source unknown
