USATF THREE RIVERS ASSOCIATION CHAMPIONSHIP
June 20 & 21 - California University PA

USA Track & Field
World Youth Track & Field Trials
June 30-July 1
Ypsilanti, MI
World Youth Website
USA Track & Field has revamped the process for selecting its team for the
IAAF World Youth Athletics Championships.
For the first time, the team will be selected based on performances at a Team Trials event
World Youth Track & Field Trials -
that will be conducted less than two weeks before the 2009 IAAF World
Youth Championships.

"Our goal is to send the best possible team to the World Championships, and
having a selection meet just prior to the World Championships allows USATF to  do this," said USATF Youth Division Chair Lionel  Leach. "As is the case with our elite athletes and their teams, our youth athletes will be able to 'select themselves'
based on how they perform at a qualifying meet."

USATF DRUG TESTING at Youth Nationals & Junior Olympics
The USATF Youth Committee voted to begin drug testing this year at the Youth National & Junior Olympic Meets. The committee is being proactive by taking this step and setting up a testing program . Last year was an introduction year with the athletes watching a video showing the drug testing process and procedures. This year the drug testing will begin. Testing will be done on the Intermediate and Young Men/Women age divisions and will NOT be restricted to medal winners. Athlete selection for testing will be random by competitor number.

Three Rivers Supports Open Athletes in Competition
Mark Bridge competed the Javelin in the 2008 Olympic Trials in July. As has been our policy in the past for Three Rivers athletes competing in the trials, Mark was given a $500 grant for his travel expenses. Mark also competed in the 2000 and 2004 Olympic Trials.

Nicole Blaesser represented Three Rivers as an AADP athlete in the USA Women's 10 Mile Championship, part of the Twin Cities Marathon on October 5th. She will also compete in another race as part of the AADP program. The AADP program is an effort by USATF to foster & develop long distance runners for the United States. Each year, races are selected as AADP races and a limited number of slots for "emerging elite" athetes. The races will waive entry fees, provide rooms, etc, and the home association of the athletes are expected to proide a monetary stipend to the athlete.

Adam Lint of West Penn Track Club will be competing in the 100K World Cup, November 8, in Tarquinia, Italy as part of the 2008 USA 100K Team. Three Rivers awarded Adam a grant to help offset his expenses since there is no funding available for the team. Team members must pay all of their own expenses including their uniforms. The money awarded to Adam will go directly to his expenses and will not be put in a team pot.

Youth Awards Banquet - List of Award Winners
The youth awards banquet was held on Sunday August 17 at Futules Harmar House in Cheswick. Since we missed last year's banquet awards were given for both the 2007 and 2008 seasons. It was an enjoyable evening for all who attended. If you missed it, we hope to see you at next year's banquet!
