(INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.) Kansas City had strong connections at the US Outdoor Track
and Field Championships this past weekend in Indianapolis. Two former Smoke
athletes made it to finals, while former MU and Kansas City Smoke standout Tim
Dunne failed to make it into the second round of the 800.
Blake Boldon had to wait out the rain before his 1500 final began, late Sunday
evening. Going up against a great American field, with the likes of Lagat, and
the comeback bid of Gabe Jennings made for a formidable task. Kansas City Smoke
Director, Shawn Love said, "We were extremely excited for Blake when he made the
qualifying time to get in, making the final just gave me the chills. It's my
belief that Blake will be on that US team going to Beijing."
Former CMSU grad, and Smoke athlete Jane Rudkin had her hands full in the womens
Steeple. Running well below her PR at Indianapolis hurt her chances of a top
five finish. Getting into a final of a US Championship is a great accomplishment
for any athlete. Jane Rudkin currently runs for Team XO, out of Eugene, OR.
Timothy Dunne served the Kansas City Smoke well; pacing them to a top three
finish at the 2003 Club Championships in Bloomington, IN. "Tim's a great
athlete, and has been running well all year. He just had one of those races,
that I'm sure he'd like to forget," Love said. Dunne lives in Columbia, and
competes for the New York Athletic Club
Kansas City Smoke distance runners will compete in Davenport, IA. over the July
fourth weekend, before traveling to Ames for Midnight Madness.
