USATF Giving Master Runner's Special Recognition Award

National Masters News

Masters runners who are members of USATF are eligible to receive the "Phidippides Award" for accumulating points based upon the number and length of races they participate in a given year. And the award is free! Broken down by age and points given per race, master runners can earn gold, silver, or bronze level awards. Perfect timing for those of us who live in Arizona to capture an award before year's end given the number of races still to run before father time moves us into 2009! Go to www.nationalmastersnews.com and look up the qualifying standards for your age group. The levels are very achievable even if you haven't run a single race yet this year. The Arizona Road Racers have some nice long distance races still to run for big points. Plenty of 10k's out there. And you don't even have to put yourself through a marathon to gain the top point earning race distance. Good stuff for the "Old Guard"! Add up what you've raced so far this year (if you can remember that far back. My wife is helping me). Check out the remaining schedule and points needed to hit your goal and go for it. This will be fun to see how many of us old timers still have the leg. So please report back so a "running" total can be printed out on this site. It will be interesting to see who has the biggest total at year's end.
