Dear
National or Master Level Official:
At
the upcoming Officials Certification Clinics, it will be necessary for you to
justify your current competency to serve as a Master’s level official at
specific events/positions. A Master level
official is expected to have the necessary skills to serve as an event head
official at a national championship meet as well as work well with meet
management, other officials and athletes.
Master level officials are expected to be the teachers at Officials
Clinics and to be active in Association Officials matters
which includes officiating at association sponsored meets on a routine
basis.
The
minimum qualifications for an upgrade to the Master level are:
- Complete three years of
officiating at the National level. Complete two years of officiating at
the Association level, at all levels of competition (age-group/high
school, college, open, and/or masters).
- Complete a resume of
competitions worked, the events worked, the person responsible for the
officials at the meets including his/her phone # and Email address.
- Three letters of
reference, two from Masters level officials.
- Demonstrate a high
level of technical expertise and knowledge of competition rules evidencing
the officiating skills at specific events/positions. You would be expected to be capable of
heading up an event at a National championship competition and
Association-sponsored event.
- Demonstrate that you
have officiated at Association-sponsored events, e.g., youth association
cross country, indoor and outdoor championship. This can be addressed with a short
paragraph attached to the resume.
- Demonstrate that you
have been active in Officials Committee business. Include this in the paragraph suggested
in item 5.
If
you believe you have met these minimum qualifications and you are interested in
applying to be considered for an upgrade to the National level, please bring
the information with you to the Officials Certification Clinic:
- A completed application
(the application will be available at the clinic) indicating the
events/positions you feel qualified at the National level.
- A resume of the
competitions you have officiated at as outlined in 2 above.
- Three (3) letters of
reference that address your technical and management (people) skills. Of particular interest in the people
skills is how you get along with meet management, other officials and
athletes: (a) two current active
National or Master level officials, at least one that has served as a Chief Judge
in the event(s)/position(s) you request upgrading , (b) a meet director or coach, and (c)
a Chief Judge in the requested event/skills.
- This can be addressed
with a short paragraph attached to the resume.
- A paragraph attached to
the resume expanding on the Association sponsored events you have
officiated at, and the service you have provided to the PVA Officials
Committee.
Once you have attended a PVA Officials clinic and
submitted your test along with the information requested above, it will be
forwarded to the Certification sub-committee for review. Once the Certification
sub-committee for a recommendation.
The final decision will rest with me as the Officials Chair. In cases where there may be a question of a
person’s experience and ability, Certification subcommittee and the
Potomac Valley Association Officials Committee’s Executive Board may meet to
review and decide upon the upgrade request.
You will be notified of your upgrade status of the committee’s action in
a reasonable and proper time.

you have any questions, please contact me at (301) 293-4219 or drbillprice@yahoo.com.
