Medical Waiver

If you are taking prescription medications for asthma or diabetes that contain prohibited substances (listed below), you must submit a Medical Notification form annually.  You are not cleared for use of a prohibited substance until you receive approval from USADA and/or the IAAF.

  • Formoterol (Foradil)
  • Salbutamol (Albuterol, Proventil, Ventolin)
  • Salbutamol/Ipratropium (Combivent)
  • Salmeterol (Serevent)
  • Terbutaline (Brethaire)

In addition, athletes who need an IAAF medical exemption must also submit:

  • a written prescription from their doctor
  • a letter from the doctor describing why a prohibited substance has been prescribed rather than a non-prohibited substance
