Tour Operator

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to tour the country, traveling to local, regional and national-caliber track & field and running events? Well, here’s your chance! USA Track & Field, the National Governing Body for track & field, long distance running, and race walking, based in Indianapolis, Indiana, is seeking one qualified candidate to do just that and more.

USA Track & Field’s “Mobile Marketing” program has an extensive tour schedule, which includes stops at various track & field meets, road races, and other events. Two Tour Operators will work as a team, driving from event to event and executing the core aspects of the tour. The Tour Operators are the “face” of the tour.

The goal of the tour is to promote USA Track & Field (USATF). To achieve this goal, the tour promotes USATF membership, supports anti-doping campaign efforts, visits member club practices and clinics, supports the Visa Championship Series and National Championship events, sells USATF/Nike merchandise, promotes the USA Track & Field Foundation, visits various running specialty group stores and major road race expos, and utilizes www.usatf.org/trackthetruck to promote the tour itself.

Expectations include:

  • Develop a thorough working knowledge of USATF programs, products, policies, and procedures with the ability to respond to questions regarding membership, merchandise, and other events and programs.
  • Collaborate with key USATF personnel to align tour activities with USATF programs and goals.
  • Build the USA Track & Field brand and execute brand initiatives.
  • Sell merchandise and manage inventory.
  • Build strong relationships with various constituents including consumers, event organizers, volunteer groups and coaches.
  • Outline goals and objectives while effectively managing budgets and expenditures.
  • Continuously evaluate progress and provide feedback to the USATF National Office.
  • A two-year commitment to the program.

Qualifications and preferences for these positions include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Sports Management, or related field
  • Retail and/or vendor sales experience, including knowledge of the sports or fitness industries preferred
  • Ability to manage complex schedules, prioritize workloads, and handle multiple projects with limited direction or supervision
  • Demonstrated initiative and the ability to adapt to and embrace change
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and customer service skills
  • Ability to network, utilize resources, and exercise a high degree of professionalism
  • Strong team player and ability to work cooperatively with others
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to write clear, concise reports and e-mail correspondence
  • Ability to drive for long periods of time and lift heavy objects weighing up to 50-60 lbs.
  • Possess a valid drivers license
  • Desire and ability to travel extensively

Compensation

Tour Operators will be paid a stipend that includes taxed expenses.
