Manager/Coach, National High Performance Center

USA Track & Field (USATF) is seeking a coach and manager for its athletes and programs in the National High Performance Center (NHPC) at the ARCO Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, California. This individual will serve the combined role of coach of elite athletes and manager of USATF programs held at the Olympic Training Center.

This individual will be based at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, California and will travel regularly. This position is designated as an independent contractor (as such, certain employee benefits such as health insurance are not provided). This individual will report to USATFs Director of High Performance Programs and have goals and program objectives established by USATFs High Performance Division Chair and the High Performance Executive Committee. The coach/manager will be responsible for determining the daily activities necessary to meet these goals and objectives.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop and conduct training programs, sport science programs and competition strategies for designated elite athletes.
  • Coordinate with other coaches (both USATF contract coaches and the athletes personal coaches) and sport scientists as it relates to designated athlete-centered projects.
  • Serve as USATFs on-site administrator for all programs and budgetary matters, including administrative aspects of the Athlete Residence Program.
  • Serve as the manager of the USATF NHP contingent at both competitions and events.
  • Collaborate with USATFs Sport Science Technical Coordinator and other sport scientists to conduct scientific studies and filming at camps and competitions.
  • Contribute to USATF High Performance summits on athletic performance, sport science and competition strategies.
  • Conduct competitions at the Olympic Training Center as scheduled.

Experience and Education:

  • At least ten years recent experience coaching elite athletes, including proven success at the international/Olympic level.
  • Proven expertise with at least two event groups within the sport of track & field, such as throws, jumps, sprints, hurdles and endurance. USATF Coaching Education school certification at Level II and/or III is preferred.
  • Minimum of a Bachelors degree required, Masters degree preferred, in a field of study related to coaching, sport science or athletic administration.
  • Proven ability to organize camps, clinics, scientific meetings, and educational seminars.
  • Experience in conducting track & field competitions.

Compensation:

This is an independent contractor position. Compensation will be commensurate with the duties assigned as well as experience. This individual will be required to reside in the San Diego area.
