Coach, National High Performance Center

USA Track & Field (USATF) is seeking a coach to oversee and manage a variety of coaching and other athlete programs in its High Performance Division. This individual will be responsible for coaching elite athletes as well as managing aspects of USATFs programs at the ARCO Olympic Training Center.

This individual will be based at the U.S. Olympic Committee's ARCO Training Center in Chula Vista, California and will travel regularly. This position is designated as an independent contractor (as such, certain employee benefits such as health insurance are not provided). The independent contractor status reflects the nature of the position USATF intends to designate goals and program objectives, and the coach will be responsible for determining the day-to-day activities necessary to meet those goals.

Responsibilities include:

  • Developing technique, training programs, and competition strategies for designated elite athletes
  • Coordinating with other coaches (both USATF contracted coaches and athletes personal coaches) and sport scientists as it relates to designated athletes and projects
  • Schedule and manage activities, both at the training center and off-site, for resident athletes
  • Serve as a leader of the USATF NHPC contingent at various competitions and events
  • Collaborate with staff on various high performance programs such as scientific studies and filming at competition site
  • Contribute to USATF high performance summits on athletic performance, sports science, and competition strategies

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of a Bachelors of Science degree (a Master's degree is preferred) in a field of study related to coaching, education, or sports science
  • At least ten years recent experience coaching elite athletes, including proven success at the international/Olympic level
  • Proven expertise with at least one event group within the sport of track & field such as sprints/ hurdles, jumps, throws, endurance; USATF Coaching Certification (Level I, II, etc.) is preferred
  • Ability to organize scientific meetings, educational seminars and conferences, camps and clinics
  • Experience in conducting track & field competitions

Compensation:

This is an independent contractor position. Compensation will be commensurate with assigned duties as well as experience. Contractors will be required to relocate to the San Diego area.
