2009 RANKINGS COMMITTEE REPORT
1) 2009 STATISTICS
Our rankings committee processed almost 30,000 results so
far this year. The indoor res=
ults
comprise about 5,200 of these and is down slightly from last year. This year’s rankings are now=
winding
down, with the deadline for 2009 outdoor rankings submissions set for Janua=
ry
31, 2010. We anticipate the
publication of the 2009 outdoor track and field rankings in the April 2010
issue of National Masters News.
2) TRENDS
More and more athletes are submitting individual results via the on-line
submission form. Indoor submi=
ssions
rose by 25% to around 1,500.
Outdoor submissions have already exceeded last year’s totals.<=

3) AWARDS DATA
The rankings committee worked closely with the awards committee by providing
helpful data to select candidates during the year.
4) WEB SITE
In spite of the fact the rankings list is the
“deliverable”, we still focus on the website, www.mastersrankings.com. The website facilitates many benef=
its to
the rankings process like us compiling more results because of improved ath=
lete
and rankings committee communication.
Therefore, we are always in a continuous improvement mode to make the
system work better for the users including an improved graphic. Improving the look or graphic cont=
ent of
the page is our biggest goal for 2010.&nbs=
p;
Additionally, we seek athletes’ feedback for what they want to
see. This increases athlete
satisfaction which will only lead to a better rankings list. One of the noted athlete requests =
was a
capability to see a listing of all the athletes from a selected club. This improvement should be impleme=
nted
before the end of the year.
