Masters Race Walking Subcommittee Report
2009
The
year started off on a tragic note at the convention last year with the trag=
ic
death of our chairman, Bob Fine. Bob had been an energetic force in the Race
Walking Community for decades. His leadership is missed.
The
subcommittee carried on with the items that Bob had outlined for us to addr=
ess
going forward. However with that said, it has been a year of readjusting an=
d in
many cases starting from scratch.
It
was hoped that when Bob’s things were sorted out and affairs were put=
in
order which took some time, that the subcommittee would receive some of the
notes, correspondence, medals, age group awards, etc.. It is our understand=
ing
at this time that there was nothing to be passed on.
Even
while we were waiting for any materials, the subcommittee moved forward. We=
did
adopt new guidelines and minimum standards for the age group awards. These
awards are presented annually at the Awards Breakfast at the Annual Meeting=
.
The
Masters Race Walk Grand Prix was held this year in conjunction with the Mas=
ters
Race Walk National Championships. The results of the Grand Prix will be
announced at the convention.
A
great deal of thanks goes to the Race Walk Committee and their cooperation =
in
providing assistance with the Masters Programs in this very difficult year.=
For
2010 we have a better understanding of where we are and what we need to do =
to
enhance the opportunities for Masters Race Walkers.
